New Years 2009! I partied, sang songs, and made lots of noise to ring in the beginning of a new year with so many opportunities and exciting things to look forward to! I must say I enjoyed partying the old year out and bringing the new year in with much ado. I have always felt that no one likes a good party as much as I do.

Looking back on the year 2008 I have many good memories, and I am excited about the ways I am learning from and will continue to learn from my experiences. I ask myself, as I reflect on days gone by, how did my life affect others for good this year? What did I do to strengthen the foundations of my country and did my actions and efforts serve to promote the furthering of truth and morality?

Through all my musings there is a subject that is weighing heavy on my heart. We are all very familiar with it, but I have a few thoughts that I am eager to share. I remember a statistic I saw in my many readings of different articles in the past few weeks. Since 1973 over 49,551,703 abortions have been performed in America. 52% of women obtaining abortions in the U.S. are younger than 25: Women aged 20-24 obtain 32% of all abortions; Teenagers obtain 20% and girls under 15 account for 1.2%. From 2006 to 2007, 1,206,200 unborn humans were denied the right to breath the air that we love to call free in this country! If one human takes another s life today and it is deemed unjust, they face the possibility of life in prison or maybe even death for shedding innocent blood. Every day thousands of innocent drops of blood are shed because 9 people in 1973 decided that choice over life and death suddenly became subjective.

In the Bible, Psalms 11:3 says, "If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?"  Our foundations have been seriously damaged in this country. Foundations that this Nation was built on. The Declaration of Independence states: " that we the people have certain unalienable rights that are endowed by our creator, Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness". You will notice the first right stated is "Life". Our founding fathers understood that life was key to America's future success and because of that they made sure to express this as a right which cannot be taken away. Yet in America it has been decided that there are certain instances in which "Life" is not a God given right and that the mother of an unborn child can make the decision on whether her baby lives or dies. I don't think that the founding fathers were referring to the mother when speaking of our rights being endowed by our creator. The same creator who breathed life into the first living being, breaths life at the conception of every child. If it is wrong to rob the breath and future of a toddling three year old, then it is just as wrong to vacuum the life out of a 12 weeks progressed embryo.

I believe that our commitment must be renewed each day, and the fire that drives our vision of life liberty and the pursuit of happiness! Each year the number of abortions continue though slowed since 1973 thanks to the efforts of many.  Yet, our responsibility is before us like never before. What will be you're your part to proactively effect your world this year? What will you do to promote truth and moral standards? For me, I am stuck with the haunting realization that 49,551,703 is the number of souls who were unable to join the party or sing nostalgic songs this New Years. 49,551,703 is the number of souls denied the right to look forward to so many opportunities and exciting things that we plan for our future. As you make plans and seek direction for this new year remember 49,551,703 souls didn't make it to ring in this new year and they never will.
