People’s lives are made up of emotions. Happiness, sadness, excitement and fear are emotions that all people experience. All year my emotions have been on a roller coaster as I observe political happenings.
I have been discouraged at times and frustrated over new policies emplaced in our Country. I was elated at the GOP victories in VA and NJ late this year and of course I look forward to seeing what will happen in the coming New Year to advance the cause of conservatism. Thinking over this year and its political events I have concluded that my emotions are always going to rise and fall as time goes by. By this I mean I am always going to be excited when conservative principles are successful and when right triumphs over wrong, and I will be grieved when liberalism triumphs and our freedoms decline. Yet, there is something that I almost failed to remember as I have considered my obvious realizations. I should never be content to let my emotions roller coaster there way through the years of political and social changes in this Country.
My emotions should focus not just on the ups and downs of life which we can never fully forecast but I should focus on the things I do know. Let me explain what I mean by things I do know. I know that I am blessed to live in a Country where people are free to gather and worship as they believe they ought. You and I can work and save money and achieve and dream and yes, see those dreams come true! But why is this possible? Well it is because of Gods blessings on our land and it is also because of the sacrifice and investment of others and because many men and women who I have only read of have given up comfort and security so that future generations could have it. People we only know from history gave up so much and people now give to protect and defend the inalienable rights that you and I enjoy. My friends don’t ever forget the sacrifice of so many. When you watch football this Thursday or enjoy time with friends and family. Remember that you are able because others sacrificed. I thank God for so many who have given and continue to give each day and I ask that I would leave a lasting impact on others futures. Don’t just give thought to the uncertainty of the future as I did. We have much to be thankful for. Give thanks this year for so much that we have been given and for all those who continue to serve and protect around this Country and the world.
